My role
As co-founder and primary organizer, I led the end-to-end coordination: from concept development and branding to speaker outreach, event logistics, and participant engagement. I’ve also facilitated sessions and contributed original talks to help foster meaningful discussions in the design community.
Summary
In 2023, I co-founded a local UX design meetup in Stockholm to bring together designers seeking connection, knowledge-sharing, and community.
What started as a small experiment during the isolating Covid period has evolved into a growing design hub with talks, workshops, and peer support — driven by curiosity, inclusivity, and a growth mindset.

THE PROBLEM
No local design meetup
During the pandemic, many in-person design events paused or disappeared altogether. For a city with a growing tech scene like Stockholm, this left a significant gap - professionals craving human connection and creative exchange. Having just relocated from London to Stockholm, I felt the absence of a vibrant, accessible design network. Building a community was a way to create the kind of space I needed myself: open, focused on shared growth and practical learning.

In 2022, all local meetups were still online due to the pandemic aftereffect.
THE CHALLENGE
Speakers, venues & everything in-between
Starting from scratch meant wearing many hats. We sourced speakers, booked venues, coordinated refreshments, promoted events, and managed RSVPs - all with a minimal budget and a lot of learning on the go.

I was in charge of everything - sourcing speakers to promoting events.
CONCEPT TESTING
The first session
For our pilot event, I gave the opening talk on “Career Changing & Imposter Syndrome.” It was both personal and universal - and helped set the tone for an honest, relatable space where designers could share real experiences behind their portfolios.

In our first session, I gave a talk on imposter syndrome in front of 14 participants.
User Insights
AI workshop
To keep the format fresh and engaging, we introduced hands-on sessions like an AI Design Workshop. It combined curiosity, play, and practical takeaways - giving participants the chance to learn emerging tools in a collaborative setting.

Our first AI workshop, hosted by Oscar Sjöstrand at a creativity workshop in Stockholm.
THE PURPOSE
Growth mindset
At its core, the meetup is rooted in the belief that designers never stop learning. Whether someone is transitioning into UX, exploring new tools, or leading a team - we all benefit from environments that encourage reflection, experimentation, and collective growth.

Niklas Fischerström, User Research Director at Hemnet, giving a talk about "Continuous discovery habits".
PARTICIPANT SATISFACTION
High satisfaction, higher curiosity
We regularly gather feedback through participant surveys to understand what resonated, what could be improved, and what topics people want next. Insights from attendees helped us iterate our formats - from single-speaker talks to panels and interactive sessions.
LATEST TOPICS
AI, AI, AI
Over the past four sessions, our design meetups have focused on AI-centered talks and hands-on workshops. As the AI landscape continues to evolve rapidly, these sessions have helped our community stay informed and engaged with emerging tools and methods. The strong curiosity and experimentation across the group reflect the growing importance of AI in our design practice. THE VALUE
To keep growing in the ever evolving landscape
Design is always changing - and designers need spaces to adapt, recharge, and stay connected. Our meetup continues to evolve as a grassroots initiative that empowers local designers to share knowledge, support each other, and shape the future of our craft together.

Tiago Almeida, Staff UX Designer at Volvo Cars, giving a talk about "Practical accessibility for designers".
